Rates
Working with us is easy. You’ll find SuperScript’s rate system refreshingly straightforward, and the rates themselves to be in accord with industry standards. You can get a good idea of the current range by viewing the rate chart posted by the Editorial Freelancers Association. This is a handy guide to common editing rates and services, and you’ll find that most editors work within them.
Since we establish your rate in advance, based on the kind of edit you need (see “What We Do”), we guarantee you will never be mystified by your invoice. Generally the rate is going to be between $25 to $40 per hour.
Currently we charge one dollar per page for the manuscript critique option described in “What We Do.”
We encourage your communication with us. While some projects are functionally simple (a final proofread, for example), most edits are collaborative endeavors. We will have questions for you; you may have questions for us, or may wish to clarify your intentions. To further open communication, you are never charged for email correspondence during the edit, or when we answer related questions after the project is complete.
Your first phone consultation and in-person meeting are likewise free of charge. Subsequent meetings and phone conversations are billed at the regular project rate in fifteen-minute increments.
Once we have mutually agreed upon a plan of action, one-third of the estimate is due at the start of the edit as a retainer. After that, SuperScript invoices clients on a monthly basis until the project is complete, with the retainer credited to the final bill.
Payment is due upon receipt of the invoice. We accept checks, money orders, and payments made through PayPal. Please make checks out to: SuperScript Editorial Services, LLC, and mail to P.O. Box 13012, Portland, OR 97213-3012.
